Just a quick note from The Phoenix Fall paying our respects to a truely incredible artist.
He and other gangsta rappers have influenced us all in the band and played an important part in developing the falls sound.
I will never forget his incredible collaboration with Mark Ronson, I cant remember the name of the song at the moment but i remember really liking it at the time!!!!
A week that has seen the UK special forces team released from Libya, Adele continuing her supremacy in the charts and Manchester United losing a second game on the bounce.
A week that has led to a very productive weekend for The Phoenix Fall. We have been in the studio recording two new songs…and we’re a little bit pleased with ourselves!
We went down to Glass House studios on Saturday morning to start laying down two tracks. A very productive Saturday was had working from 10am through to 230am! And then again today. The studio belongs to Will Puxley, who has produced these two tracks. The studio is set in an idyllic part of the countryside just outside of Newbury. We gained a new member of the band, a strange looking duck the resides on the wall just outside the studio, he popped in every now and again to make sure things were running smoothly! Food was aquired from the local shop which sold essentials but not much else, so with a toasty maker in the kitchen it was toasty for breakfast, toasty for lunch and toasty for supper! I think Ben ran in toasty champ, managing to devour 16 in the weekend. Really nice….
Massive thanks to Will for the whole weekend. Watch this space for photo’s of the weekend and maybe a sneak peak at the tracks….all in all a very productive weekend!
So what else is new? Beady Eye’s album has been released, charting at number three and the Strokes are back!! More and more sneak peaks of their new album are finding there way on to the internet. I’ll leave you with two live tracks from the new album, out March 21st
It’s been a while since I did our ‘weekly’ music blog – I’ve had a busy few weeks. We’re gearing up for a weekend in the studio over the next few days, aiming to have two new songs of our own for you to enjoy. Keep watching this space for updates and news on them.
For now, though, here’s our music choice of the week. Anyone who can guess which band member chose which songs gets two free tickets to our next gig (19th March at The Dublin Castle, Camden).
Jessie J – Do It Like A Dude
Kenny Garrett – Happy People
Passion Pit – Little Secrets
Beady Eye – Bring The Light

Festival line ups are being anounced left right and centre, and its that time where you start to get ridiculously excited about the summer.
Arctic Monkeys and Coldplay seem to be making this summer a summer for people to remember them by! I was lucky enough to see the Sheffield quartet when they headlined Glastonbury for the first time in 07! It also was the wettest ever Glasto!! Good times!
BUt as for Coldplay, I have never seen them so very excited about seeing them at Glastonbury.
As for The Phoenix Fall, 2 gigs last week. Both evenings were busy and had a great reaction from both. So thank you to all those who came down to both or either! The first was an acoustic gig at a new night called the Lockout. Keep an eye out for this night as it is only going to go from strength to strength. Hopefully we’ll have the chance to play there again.
We’re going into the studio this weekend to record two new tracks so watch this space!
It’s been a great week for the band. Rehearsal this week was great, going over old songs that we haven’t played for a long long time. This time with a Latvian twist… I feel the next few gigs might have a “vintage” twist!! Also, a new song is coming through the mist. “Hold up a light” is the new track, it has taken a few weeks for it to turn from an acoustic idea into a song, but as of Thursday, the four of us are really happy with the way it is progressing. So watch out in the next gig…..The Phoenix Fall old and new will be appearing!
Three new songs were written this week so watch this space for new “material” coming soon!
So this week we had the Baftas (and the award goes to….The Kings Speech…again…) and the Brit awards. Don’t you just love live television? A scraggy script that no one pays attention to, and an auto cue that never works…..they call them actors, but without lines even Rosamund Pike and main male protaganist in “Mamma Mia” struggled….are they really actors….?
Where has the rock and roll gone from the Brits? When I was in my teens, the Brits was all about bands/artists telling the world about their true feelings about other bands/artists’! Perhaps, these feelings were enhanced by alcohol or other devices.
Here is Brit gold….enjoy…
A bit of shameless promotion:
Tomorrow night: Rare and acoustic gig – The Primo Bar, the Plaza Hotel, SE1 – anyone who comes to this gig has the chance of winning free tickets to the gig this Friday….
Friday 25th Feb (this friday) Hope and Anchor, Islington. Come along and have the chance of winning a pint from The Phoenix Fall…..really nice.
Have a great week, keep in touch, listen to more Phoenix Fall, eat more chocolate and hopefully see you on Monday and Friday.
I will leave you with the most decorated Brit artist…
This monday we’re playing an acoustic set at Lockout Music in The Park Plaza Hotel near Waterloo (postcode SE1 7UT). If you want to see a rare, striped back show, come down from 7:00. Best news of all, it’s free.
Today’s been a bit of a weird one. Back on the booze last night so I have been feeling awful today. I’ve forgotten how bad hangovers can be!
Went to Sainsburys to do the weekly shop….worst decision i’ve made all week. Chose to use a basket, put too much in and it broke. Dropped the baguettes outside, very irritating. Then to cap it off, got outside, trying to re adjust the bags (because of the baguettes) and put them down on a pile of sick. superb.
Getting more and more excited about Glastonbury as i’ve heard that the Libertines are supposed to be headlining the Other Stage!! i pray that they are not put on the same night as Coldplay. It would be too hard a decision!! Had the luxory of seeing them at Reading in the summer. Incredible!!
We had a really good rehearsal on Thursday evening. We taught Edvards some of the old “classic” Phoenix Fall songs. Therefore keep an eye out for some of our old tunes in the next few gigs. It was really nice going through the old repertoire, old songs given a fresh vibe!! and a new song as well. Also two new songs written this weekend. So exciting times….keep an eye out!!
Watched Take me Out again this weekend, which I find ridiculously entertaining. The video below is TV gold!
Just a gentle reminder for you all – 25th February, Hope and Anchor. Come along. There will be a chance to win free tickets and to get a free pint! So watch this space….
Last weekend we had great chance to make photo shoots. Thanks to Dom Agius again! Also we are working now on our new material, writing new songs, working on arrangements and getting ready for studio to record a new stuff. So be ready to see and hear something new from The Phoenix Fall soon.
Again want to share some music videos with you what I prefer.
This time it will be a band Kings of Leon. The interesting fact, what I discovered recently, is that this American rock band is consisting of three brothers and their cousin.
I think it is great to have brothers like they are. I like a sound of this band. Enjoy!
And of course one video what I found on my computer. Short video of our live performance @ Hope and Anchor.
We will play there again on 25 of February. In two weeks we hope to see all of you there and have a good time with us!
Here is a Passion Pit/ Phoenix remix of our second single ‘Tearing Me Apart’ hope you like it or whatever. I think you’ll agree it works really well with the Watership Down video in the background.
This video will always hold a certain significance for us. For many years it has been the top result in youtube (and google) when searching for The Phoenix Fall… Enjoy!
Coming to watch us play at Proud, Camden, tonight? We're on at 9:15 and all you need to do is say our name on the door and you get in free! 5 months ago
So yesterday involved heavy metal saxophone and tuba... interesting. Would like to see Oren Marshall play with Mastodon or similar 6 months ago
Got the family Brubeck in Ronnie's tonight. Honestly they are the nicest band I have ever met! Good next few days with them. C 6 months ago
